Fielmann AG is a German optics company focusing on retail eyewear. External sales in Europe with 723 branches in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands amounted to €1.61 billion in sales and 8.1 million glasses in 2017. 24 million people wear a pair of glasses from Fielmann. Pre-tax profit increased at 3% to €248.6 million, income increased at 1% to €172.9 million. As of 31 December 2017 Fielmann operated 723 subsidiaries, employed 18,522 people, 3,417 of whom were in training. With a share of 5% of all German optometric stores, Fielmann trains more than 40% of all optometrist apprentices in Germany. The Fielmann stock is listed in the German MDAX index and at the northern German regional HASPAX index. With its 597 stores in Germany Fielmann enjoys a 53% unit market share of the industry, as well as a 21% sales market share.
